The customer: Manufacturer of electric motors for electric vehicles
The challenge: Production of a metal motor housing with tight tolerances in terms of roundness and surface quality. Due to the direct drive and the necessary integration of the motor directly into the wheel, production poses a particular challenge here: Any resulting imbalance or out-of-roundness can lead to unwanted vibrations occurring while driving.
Our solution: We designed a special clamping device to both clamp the housing and stabilize its shape during machining. This allowed the necessary machining forces to be applied without impairing the subsequent smooth running.
