The customer: a Swabian car manufacturer of international standing

The challenge: Production of a precisely dimensioned support made of spring steel for extension as rollover protection in a convertible. The material, an unruly spring steel which, due to its properties, tends to deform easily during the machining process, must under no circumstances be outside its narrow tolerances in terms of shape. Otherwise, its function as a rapidly extending support would not be guaranteed in the event of an accident due to the risk of jamming.

Our solution: By using particularly guide-stable multi-axis machines and supporting the workpiece at several points, it was possible to ensure the dimensional stability of the support throughout the entire machining process.
